Tokkuri

Serving & Vessels

Definisi

A narrow-necked ceramic flask used to serve sake, typically holding 180 ml (one go) or 360 ml (two go). The tokkuri's shape retains heat when serving warm sake and prevents rapid oxidation.

Mendalam

Tokkuri come in a vast range of styles, from rustic stoneware to elegant porcelain, and the choice of vessel influences the sake experience. The narrow neck concentrates aromas and limits the surface area exposed to air. For warm sake, the tokkuri is placed in a pot of hot water (yukan) and warmed gradually to the desired temperature. Some tokkuri feature indentations or channels on the interior wall that create a 'tokutoku' pouring sound, which some believe is the origin of the name. Collecting tokkuri is a popular hobby among sake enthusiasts.
