Gunma

Gunma prefecture — watercolor illustration
Région Kanto (関東)

Climat

Gunma is framed by the Joshinetsu highlands and the 2,000-meter Tanigawa massif, which channels cold, dry winter air — the karakaze winds — down into the Tone River valley. These bracing winds lower humidity and reduce the risk of mold contamination during fermentation. Glacially filtered spring water from the Tone and Agatsuma river basins is exceptionally soft and clean, supporting the delicate, elegant ginjo styles gaining Gunma growing recognition.

À propos

Gunma Prefecture sits in the mountains of northern Kanto, blessed with pure water from the Tone and Agatsuma rivers. The dry winter winds called karakaze and cold mountain air support clean, crisp brewing. Ryujin Shuzo (Oze no Yukidoke) has gained a devoted following, and Gunma's diverse terrain supports both delicate ginjo and robust junmai styles.
