Climate

Yamanashi is encircled by the Southern Alps, the Yatsugatake range, and the northern slopes of Mt. Fuji, creating an elevated inland basin with cold, crisp winters and wide seasonal temperature swings. This alpine environment delivers pristine snowmelt that is extremely soft and pure, ideal for the subtle, mineral-free expression of polished sake rice. The same geology that produces Yamanashi's world-class Koshu wine also yields exceptional conditions for premium sake brewing.

About

Better known for wine from its Koshu grape, Yamanashi also has a proud sake tradition fed by pristine water from Mt. Fuji and the Southern Alps. The prefecture's high altitude and wide temperature swings create distinctive brewing conditions. Shichiken (Yamanashi Meijo) is the standout brand, producing elegant sakes that reflect the alpine clarity of their source water.
