Nada Gogou

灘五郷

Regional Sake

คำจำกัดความ

The five historic brewing districts of Nada, located between Kobe and Nishinomiya in Hyogo Prefecture. These five villages — Imazu, Nishinomiya, Uozaki, Mikage, and Nishi — collectively form Japan's largest and most prestigious sake production region.

เชิงลึก

Nada has dominated Japanese sake production since the Edo period, thanks to access to miyamizu water, proximity to Osaka and Edo (Tokyo) via sea shipping, and favorable climate. At its peak, Nada produced over 30% of all Japanese sake. Today the region remains home to major producers including Hakutsuru, Kikumasamune, Kenbishi, Nihonsakari, and Sawanotsuru. The Nada Gogou collectively produce sake ranging from mass-market futsu-shu to ultra-premium daiginjo, and the region has received Geographical Indication (GI) status.
